Sully is chasing Scribbler's 7:43.42 from 1998. Sully has gone 7:40.17 indoors.

Tegenkamp was second in that race and subsequently ran 8:07 which is about 7:32. He looks good for it, but it all depends, that is why they run the race. I have hopes for the Wisconsin duo of Tegenkamp and Solinsky - 7:31/7:34 would be nice.

Wrong thread. This is the FLAT 3000m thread.

SC: Kilometer splits, just as one would expect. 7:59.43 wins.

I have to admit I used to be a skeptic about bekele (or anyone else) ever breaking 7:20. But he looked _good_ today at 7:25 with - as Eldrick points out - pretty terrible pacing. Has Martin Keino's departure from the pacing scene left an unfilled void? Who will fill it?

Also, pretty decent run for Teg. But Solinsky dropped out? [edit - missed the crash]

Big crash at the back took out half the white guys

Bekele got the prize and did NOT go out super fast, which might be a problem with other attemps, although he does need a more even pace than this.

Matt did not quite have enough to hang on the last 50m, but still broke the SR.

                      you saw the race ?!

he did not CHOOSE not to go out super-fast

he got that foisted on him by broke-dick pacers

look carefully at about 4 laps in - he put both his hands out in front of him & appeared to push the broke-dickee in a vain attempt to get him to run faster !

                        Sully's take on the fall:

"It's too bad some of the inexperienced Kenyans don't realize they just need to get in line and follow the pace."

Being a non-fan of "bunnies," I think it's absurd to blame some guy's mere 10-second win on poor pacers. If some hot-shot (and I think the world of K. Bekele) isn't satisfied with the pace, he should bloody well get out and set the pace himself. Alan Webb (and he isn't alone) is not above doing that.

It's deja-vu all over again! Bek is discovering for himself what Geb discovered back in about '97-99. And, yes, I miss Martin Keino tremendously!!

komen got dragged thru 2k in 4'53+ at close to even pace with him shadowing wabbit

there is physics conjecture that good pacing + tucking in close can save you close to 1s/lap from aerodynamic effect

if kennster had shot past the pacer at 1k ( 2'29 ) & run it solo from there, he'd have immediately sacrificed himself upto

                              ~ 2.5s

                              compared to komen's run
