It's called trying to do something nice for the customers. For no extra work on our part we save the client from having to access a website, enter a password and do a download. Instead, they click their e-mail, and there it is (well, when the server is working properly, that is).
Can't BenH bypass the log-in and have a link go directly to the archived PDF? Don't all the technophobes that still subscribe hate this e-process anyway? Don't they still want it sent SnailMail? Please don't scold me for inquiring!!
Tafnut the process you describe (auto-login) sounds like a fairly problematic "back door" to the archive that is not a good idea if they actually care about limiting access to the archive. An attachment seems like the correct way to go.

We won't even get into teh fact that a sizable number of subscribers find accessing the Archive beyond their technical ken. It's so easy when you do something every day to think that everybody else on the planet is doing it too, when in reality they are not.

I've said it before, and I have to say it again: the people who participate on these forums in no way are anything like a representative cross-section of the magazine's readership. You can't judge them by your standards.

              It's a Canadian thing.

Mr. Donley has answered my question (which is all it was). I thought it wouldn't be an issue, but apparently it would be.
