We won't even get into teh fact that a sizable number of subscribers find accessing the Archive beyond their technical ken. It's so easy when you do something every day to think that everybody else on the planet is doing it too, when in reality they are not.
I've said it before, and I have to say it again: the people who participate on these forums in no way are anything like a representative cross-section of the magazine's readership. You can't judge them by your standards.
I just printed it out from the archive, where it's fine. I've been wondering why T&FN even bothers to send it out at all as a full PDF attachment. All you have to do is send the link to the archive, with an auto-login.
It's called trying to do something nice for the customers. For no extra work on our part we save the client from having to access a website, enter a password and do a download. Instead, they click their e-mail, and there it is (well, when the server is working properly, that is).
Can't BenH bypass the log-in and have a link go directly to the archived PDF? Don't all the technophobes that still subscribe hate this e-process anyway? Don't they still want it sent SnailMail? Please don't scold me for inquiring!!
Tafnut the process you describe (auto-login) sounds like a fairly problematic "back door" to the archive that is not a good idea if they actually care about limiting access to the archive. An attachment seems like the correct way to go.

So, tafnut, how was the trip to the UK? Hope you had a good time. Don't know when we will make it next. Give a short blog-like report on the "things not T&F", I am always up for travel ideas
I am writing my Opus Magnus on the trip to share with some friends off-line, which I shan't bore the forum with. PM me your e-mail addy or I can PM it to you. As one might expect, I have LOTS to say about GB! (We had a great time, but there were some 'issues' as well (did you read my 'Ticket Fiasco' report on TNT&F?)

Oh, on message, I didn't check in until just now, so there was eTN47 in my inbasket For the past about 10 or so, I have fished them off the archive. Hell, I even got my magazine today. Life is good
You know, I jsut don't how how we run our business without you. We can't keep track of the ages of our customers, can't do TN to your satisfaction. Sure great to have you back from vacation.
Huh?
* It's YOUR business whether you wish to have demographic data on your clientele - I would if I were you, which I'm not.
* eTN is exactly as I wish it.
Thanks for the welcome back. I missed you too.
Why would you bite the hand that (literally and figuratively) feeds you? I have amply demonstrated my allegiance to the T&FN brand, in ALL regards.
All 'critical' comments (e.g., "why not just send a link to the archive, vice a PDF attachment?", or "why not conduct a thorough reader survey?") are merely 'thinking out loud' musings, meant to further my understanding of my favorite (by far) periodical. I would be shocked if you actually meant them as even 'requests'.
I have repeatedly stated my gratitude for the job you personally do and the magazine in general. I am, in fact, one of your oldest (although there are admittedly much older) and most ardent fans.
I thought we had moved beyond such pettiness, but whether we have or not, I am indeed glad to be back, where I can converse with friends (and foes?) about the sport we all love so much.
