oooo - someone at IAAF ain't gonna be happy. As long as he runs a coupla times elsewhere, I'm happy.

No Lagat either. His season finishes after 1500 in Berlin...

I would not be entirely surprised if it is IAAF's setup with the high points for their meets and all of that. I might rub some people the wrong way and not be of great interest to alter what might otherwise be best for them (the list of who is not on top of the IAAF rankings and WAF lists is instructive.

I doubt that this is why Wariner and Lagat are not going to compete. Even if they didn't have enough points, I gotta believe they'd get an invite if they wanted one.

Yeah, in terms of selling tickets (which is what the concept is all about), to whom else would they give the wild cards other than the world champs?

Wariner has enough points... he's currently #2 on 400m tables...

Lagat is =#6 on 1500m tables but will fall over weekend presumably...

                    Wariner out of WAF

ISTAF Berlin GL meet changes in the sprint program according to these releases:

                    9 August 2007 11 September 2007

                    Men Men
                    14:30 400 15:15 200
                    15:50 200 15:50 100
                    16:45 100 16:15 400

                    Women Women
                    15:40 200 14:30 200
                    16:25 100 16:25 100
                    16:35 400 16:35 400

Is some sprinter planning to double? If so who? If not, why have all three Men's sprints been changed in BOTH time & sequence while the only Women's sprint that has been changed is the time of the 200.

A possible Men's 200 - 100 double is MORE difficult because the rest has been REDUCED from 55 minutes to 35 minutes, while the rest for a Men's 200 - 400 double is one hour -- much easier than a 400 - 200 double of one hour and 20 minutes.

Are Wariner, Wissman or "X - Man" planning to double? Wariner & Wissman are entered in the 400 & I assume that "X - Man will run the 200>

Order of events at WAF is usually changed to "build suspense" about the million dollar prize. Guess that's why w400 is final event.

Thanks for the info. It makes a lot of sense.

However, w400 was 16:35 on BOTH 9Aug & 11Sept schedules. By 6Jul m100 was eliminated, so I still wonder why the schedule was changed for sprints, especially men's sprints.

There's a million dollar prize at the WAF?

I also thought the Jackpot was integrated into WAF, but it's just a 'show up' clause.
IAAF Golden League Jackpot in 2007:
                            $1 Million Prize
Successful claimants of the $1 Million Jackpot must win their event (a list of applicable jackpot events is shown below) at ALL SIX meetings of the IAAF Golden League.
However, should NO athlete manage to attain six wins and claim the $1 Million, then anyone with five victories will share half the original prize - $500,000. NOTE. this secondary prize is only on offer should nobody win his or her event at all six meetings.
All winners must compete at the IAAF World Athletics Final to be eligible for their share of the Jackpot.
IAAF Golden League Jackpot Events in 2007:
                            MEN: 100m, 1500m, 110m Hurdles, Triple Jump, Javelin Throw;
WOMEN: 100m, 400m, 100m Hurdles, High Jump, Pole Vault.

Which, of course, means that they wouldn't "build suspense" by saving a Golden League jackpot event for the end of the program.
