  • T&F versus Michael PHELPS...

Nothing in common with athletics, but I am
really fascinated by the sudden rise of this
young swimmer who is re-writing the limits
    of his sport. Sensational champion!!!
Shall we meet someday any as talented
    athlete in Track and Field?
The last one was Jesse OWENS, I believe.

Kris is my roommate and I'm using his PC, not sure why it logged me in as him. Anyway I think Bolt may be the Phelps of our sport, watching him literally JOG a 48 second heat at the IAAF World Youth Championships was unreal.

I never understood why people say things like that. A 48 can not be a jog, which by definition is a slow run. Maybe 48 looked easy for him, but looks don't matter. Some athletes look like they're running faster than they actually are, and others look slower. But the only thing that really matters is their speed. If he had really been jogging, then why did he not ever blast a sub 45?

For God's sake man he has already run 45.35 four months before his 17th birthday and only dabbled at 400 this year. Not quite with it, are you?

Could be the fastest he ever goes also.

I understand what you mean by jogging a 48. If he follows through improving for two more years even, who knows what he could do (no sub 19.32 0r sub 43 though) I'd love to see him take the 400 seriously, I think he could be a consistent sub. 44.5 guy
why don't people pronounce vowels anymore

Exactly. Time will tell if Bolt is Obea Moore or Michael Johnson. In any case, the best sprinters are usually late bloomers rather than early ones (with Carl Lewis being a notable exception to this trend).

Yes it could. But after 30 years of closely following this sport, I've found that there is something special about some who come along, a certain "je ne sais quoi", and I'm seeing it again in this kid. Just like I did with Carl, Marion, Evelyn, Merlene and Michael Johnson.
