  • Good year for 400; bad year for 800

    I've just noticed that there is more than a one-minute differential between the 2007 men's world-leading times in the 400m (43.45) and 800m (1:43.74).

Looks like this is the first time since 1972 (!!) that this has happened. That year Wayne Collett (44.1) and David Wottle (1:44.3) led the world lists.

This year's world 800m leader is the slowest since 1982. Time to bring pace-makers back to Zürich!

    The R-word??!!
Jon, you silly boy. T&F is NOT about the performances; it's just about the competition!! 1:47 800s and 13:45 5000s in World Championships meets are FINE!! Stop being such a Marks Snob!!!

I enjoy the sport so much more than you guys: every year is a great year in every event, no matter what happens.

I was speaking from a statistical standpoint; not an enjoyment one.

            How bourgeois!

That sounds like someone who is happy eating anywhere, as long as there is food. I, sir, am a connoisseur of track & field!!!

No, you are a connoisseur of calories, not of food (competition).
