  • Knees are messed up, if you know anything about knees....

Can someone explain whats going on with my knee?

Aparently no ligaments are damaged at all. When i walk it hurts to walk, in both knees, but my chiropracter tested everything and he said, "I can't find anything to ice." Which I agree there seems to be nothing wrong, but it hurts a f*cking lot. Both times i was there he did a little manual adjustment. It didnt hurt less or worse really afterwords.

Everyday it seems to hurt more as time goes on, being pain free when i wake up.

My knee is not swelled, but sort of feels like my lower leg and knee aren't on straight. But i know they are in alignment.. and they dont look off at all.

It's something in the inside that hurts. My chiropracter, who is btw a runner, told me just to stay off it and not do anything but the walking I have to do for a few days to let it settle down.

It's probably not runners knee.. it might be a very small degree of it, but not really.. it doesnt hurt when i push on the knee cap like it would with Runners knee. It Might be tedonitis, but it would be a very low amount of it.. but would that cause this much pain?

on a scale from 1 to 10 this is how the pain works..

    7:00 am 0-1 no pain
8:00 Am I can feel it a little, but thats it
12:00 Noon 4-5 it hurts a little now
    3:00 pm 6-7 It's hurting worse
then for the rest of the day it slowly drops from 7 down or rises up to 10 depending on how much i walk/run/move.

Anyone have any clues?.. Ask questions if i haven't made this clear..

on my right knee it hurts on the bottom right of the knee.. or rather that is where i have the feeling of disconnection..

    sorry i didnt include this..

the injury happened from incorrect form while doing weights..

I know what its from, i just need to know how to heal it..

The chiropracter is a runner.. the orthopedist is foreign and doesnt understand.. at least in my town.. so uhh.. Im going with the runner..

But i do greatly apreciate the response!

    thanks

See a doctor that specializes in the Knee. Many orthopedic surgeons have private pratices where they see many people complaining of knee pain. Don't run through knee pain you will only cause damage.
There are so many variable that can effect the health of your knee that would make an online diagnosis hard.

        Tyrone,

I'm not a specialist but I would recommend that you try the following for a few weeks, I've done it and it helps me.

I assume you lift weights on a regular basis (you mentioned lifting). One common problem many runners and sprinters have is with an imbalance between quadricep and hamstring stregnth. This can cause the muscles to hold the knee in improper positions, especially later in the day when the muscles get tired. This can ocur from imprper lifting or even just from the type of courses you run or workouts you do.

A good rule of thumb is that when doing quadricep extensions and hamstring curls that you want to use at least 75% of the weight when you do the hamstrings that you use when you do the quads. Any less and your hamstrings are too weak in comparison and cause knee problems or hamstring pulls when sprinting.

If you do alot of leg work (lifting), pull back some and make sure you have a proper ham/quad mix. Many people neglect the hams when lifting weights as quads are the show muscles and there are more well known exersizes to do for them.

If you don't lift much start doing some light leg extensions and hamstring curls at the GYM or if you can't get to a GYM with some leg weights at home.

I've given similar advice to dozens of fellow runners with knee problems and it has significantly helped over 80% of them.

If may be worth a try before shelling out the dollars for a specialist.

        Best of luck,

        Mark

Knee problems can sometimes require the use of orthotics for correction. You can go to an orthotics specialist, they make a moulded implant which slips into the shoe and corrects the movement which is causing the knee pain. But it is a bit pricey, I am looking at around 540Can to get it done right now.

Re: Knees are messed up, if you know anything about knees...

Ultrarunner is dead on with his ham/quad notes above - most runners have a little imbalance anyway, and make it worse by using too much weight on quad extensions.

I would also add that if you can pinpoint the cause of the injury (weight training) it is likely acute, not chronic, and you in fact DID injure a ligament/tendon. If it continues I would shop for another doctor who is willing to order more tests (MRI, etc.) if necessary. Until then, I wouldn't lift on it at all.

            Good luck.

Ty, doesn't "chiropractor" mean anything to you? Just hearing the word should be accompanied by the Jason (Friday the 13th) "che-che-che-che-ha-ha-ha-ha" soundtrack echo.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, TYRONE, GET AWAY FROM THE QUACK AND RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!

Find an orthopedist who speaks English before you do anything else. Would you take your car to a guy who can't speak English?

              Good luck.

Re: Knees are messed up, if you know anything about knees...

pain affecting both knees & especially worse going up stairs is likely patella tendonitis, where rest, physio & good anti-inflammatories like diclofenac or vioxx (for "delicate" stomachs) would help.

however pain on one side of the knee suggessts something more serious:if it's worse on twisting it may be a meniscal(cartilage) tear, whereas if it hurts on pure side-to-side movement(with no twisting involved) it is more likely a ligamentous injury.

either way you are wasting your time if you are still reading this: you should be halfway to the door of an orthopaedic specialist:this requires X-ray,MRI scan & possible arthroscopy - go to it!

If you log on to a message board rather than consulting a doctor then you must be looking for mensa's advice. Think about locking yourself in a clear plexiglass box for 30 days. Use yoga to get your nutrients from the sun, like a plant. You'll be back to running in know time.

                    Pour some robitussin on them.

Then eat two chocolate chip cookies and call me in the morning.

                      Could possibly be tendonitis.
I remember Maurice Greene had it 2001, he said that the problem had occurred when he tried to catch up on some missed weight seesions, he overdid and ended up with tendonitis in his left knee. He had to wear a kind-of sweat band below his left knee to restrict the pain.
This lead to part of his breakdown within the 2001 Edmonton WCH Men's 100m final (a 'supposed' torn right quadricept and a pulled right hamstring were the other causes. Mo actually inflamed the tendonitis through puhsing his body to his ultimate limits during this race)

If you have got tendonitis, which is a possibilty, the spray on this webpage seems very useful from sufferers of tendonitis:
                      http://www.reliefmart.com/Therapain_Plu ... onitis.htm

Information on Muscle & Tendon problems from Weightlifting:
                      http://www.bragmanhealth.com/books/sports/ch33.html

If you scroll down the page that it mentions the 'RUNNER'S KNEE PAIN'
                      From the page;
'Runner's knee can become quite aggravated by repetitions of squats, leg extensions, and leg presses. If the front part of the knee begins to hurt, you should stop doing squats until the pain subsides.'

"If you have got tendonitis, which is a possibilty, the spray on this webpage seems very useful from sufferers of tendonitis" lordy, spray on relief from tendonitis? Must be the aerosol form of robutussin...
