  • A journalist with a 2:28 marathon PR

    In a car.

The NYTimes's Clyde Haberman has driven the NYC Marathon course in five different autumns in morning rush-hour traffic. His best time is 2 hours 28 minutes. The article, of course, is more about traffic than running, but it's timely and mildly amusing.

I wonder how much faster a 2:10 guy could run it in the middle of rush hour.

He couldn't. He's be dead by mid-point, having jumped in front of one too many NY cabs.

Did they test for illegal additives in his fuel tank? Any nitrous oxide?

Well, if he did it this Wednesday it was Halloween. Perhaps a lot of folks were staying home and getting ready to party and/or go to the parade that night. I can't imagine doing that route in that amount of time on a weekday morning. Hell, the 59th St. Bridge crossing alone can take damn near an hour some days.
