Olympic runner Adam Goucher has made the Goucher name proud for years. But with the recent success of his wife Kara, Adam is amused by his new role of Mr. Kara Goucher.
"It's a little bit weird," Adam said from his home in Portland, Ore., three days after successful foot surgery. "You kinda see how fickle the sport is. Her having such an amazing year and me not having such a great year, people now ask me 'Oh, you run too?' The Sports Illustrated article, which came out last week, said 'Kara Goucher, whose husband runs, too.'
"Kara's had to deal with that [stuff] for years living in my shadow. It was hard for me to stand by and watch people say to her, 'Oh you run, too.' I found myself having to defend her. So it's funny watching the tables turn."
