Being left off UKA's latest funding list must have been the last nail in the coffin. :?

Can't say I blame him - surprised he hasn't done it sooner. I wish him all the best.

I agee, not a surprise. Another triumph for Dave Collins - consecutive OG 4ths and yet Collins cuts Brown's funding. Well done to all at UKA.

        All the best to Jon.

When did he last run for the UK and when can he run for Canada?

I don't think he has represented the UK since the Olympic Games (also had a good run at the WXC that year).

Normal rules is that there has to be a two-year gap between representing your previous country and your new one. The last major championships he competed in was the 2004 Olympics, although he did represent GB at least year's Chiba Ekiden - not sure if that counts, though.

I wonder if Jerome Drayton's long-standing Canadian record will be broken?

The fact that there is even a question shows you how amazing it is. I am betting on a different horse taking that down, though-look at the top 5000 guys we have now-say 2010.

Had occasion to go through the link below yesterday and it has just some amazing stuff in there about Drayton's various problems getting on various Olympic teams.

Has Sully shown any interest in moving up to the marathon?

I think if he moves up to anything, it would be the 5000. Keep his age in mind. Not a lot of time to do two moves.

True. John Mayock (a guy with very similar PBs to Sully) tried moving up to the marathon right at the end of his career, but it proved too much and he DNFed on his debut at 26.2miles (NYC 2005 I think). Didn't race again after that.

Good athlete but I've always thought his Olympic 4th places were over-achievement. It's a long time since he has been truly fit - I suspect he won't be troubling Drayton's record. Given his state of fitness and recent form I'm not surprised his funding has been pulled.

The normal rule is actually three years, but the country losing the athlete can agree to reduce that to one year and that agreement is often given. Under current rules, the Ekiden would not count.

Apparently, he has yet to meet the requirements of our draft standards. He ran a 2:11:46 in 2006 which was 15 seconds outside of our A+ standards which one had to run in 2006 to qualify. So he has to still run a 2:12:38 to get on the team.

and Bakila over-achieved too, as he only ran two good races. Once, maybe, twice, no.
