    Re: Excuses Athletes Make

Why do people like Ultra need to take Blond pot shots a SH. All she does is win National Championships year after year. Post something negative about Jacobs and the moderator freeks out and deletes it. Then you have the previous posts about Hamilton having a need " put some effort into.. " This is just crap. This is why the new generation athlete , like myself will call out a drug cheater, will call out athletes with pissy personalities, we will also tune out the 50+ boomer generations drible about how good things were in the past.

Take a note, this is why Runners World canned Joe Henderson , Galaway , the Penguin. Kids that buy the magazine don't want to listen to that tired old crap anymore. The Boomers have ruined Track in North America, this is a fact. We are bringing it back.

Point taken about the shots at SFH but please explain how calling out "pissy personalities" will allow "new generation athletes" to "bring back track" and where will track be once all the pissy personalities have been called out? I'm not trying to be funny here-just trying to understand cause and effect.

        Re: Excuses Athletes Make

This is my example : A summer training camp in Canada , with Felicien present. Her attitude was so offensive to the volunteer staff that 3 unpaid assistants , who were there only to support the athletes quit after the first day. The issue was lack of refreshments , or something like that. We were just thinking , why doesn't that b*#ch just walk over to the dam water fountain and take a drink. That is a "pissy" personality. This is unacceptable. Have you ever watched your own USA Championships , SFH runs her race in 4 minutes, then stays 2 hours to sign autographs and take pic with the people.Alan Webb, 2 years out of high school and he can never log on to this site, ever. Have you read that garbage. The kid is like 20, or 21 years old. These old farts on this site , who thinks its funny to take pot shots at her or Alan. Our generation thinks it is sick , but we have to accept that this is how your generation is. This is how we will change things , drug cheats will never be given a second chance or given any respect , even after suspensions are over. Pissy personalities that turn people off of track will be brought out. Sleazy coaches and admin will be brought out. You people , the 50+ Boomers , go back and read the threads created here . You people are bad for our sport.

You haven't answered my question. How is calling her a ***** going to "bring back track"? Fine, you got a problem with Perdita. That's a pretty big leap from there to labelling a bunch of 50 plus boomers as monolithic in their views. You sound like Jon Entine on race. You go back and read the threads-pretty wide range of views.

"The reason people run ultra events is because they suck at conventional events. This is why ultras will never be taken seriously by any international."

"Why do people like Ultra take blonde pot shots at SFH."

U of C, to clear up a few things, I am not in the 50+ generation although I do have alot a respect for them. Ultras are taken seriously internationally and we even have a World Championship and the IAAF tracks the world records. Doubt they would bother if they didn't take us seriously. And for the record I didn't suck at other conventional events, was all state in CC, the mile and two mile in high school and Captain of the Cross Country team in college. Not national class but respectable.

Second, look back at the thread, I made no reference to Blonds. That was someone else. I did "crack" on SFH because of many reasons, I met her in college and she did not come off as particulatly bright, then she does things such as dedicate national championship races to her dog and stop one lap short in a mile race because she lost count of the laps. Face it she is not the brightest light in the room. She is very talented and works very hard. I have never questioned that, but if she doesn't want to be kidded then she needs to stop making such air-headed quotes every time she is interviewed.

This is what my generation stands for. You just call SFH an air-head. I'm calling you a moron, participating in a lame sport. I have read through the thread , at no time did I see a request for people to determine how bright a certain athlete was . If they did , the first reponse from my generation would be " don't get shit faced drunk and drive into a big rock like Pre". But the sick 50+ generation think , Oh Blond, must be stupid " . Then I knew some jackass like you would somehow find a reason to defend calling her stupid.
Ultra champions like Transon, of coarse she will win every women event because she is the only women in the event. I'm just calling a spade a spade. You people have turned this thread " of a humour article " into a chance to Bash SFH. If you don't want people calling you a moron , then don't repond to threads like this. You may not be a moron , but this is how you come across to me. Like I said , read the past posts, the 50+ generation is ruining the sport . We want then to go away.

Lets be honest folks , this is a classic post from a 50+ A-hole that is ruining the sport of track . This jackass feels the need to post the garbage, and guess what , more jackass's back him up with blond jokes. After the house cleaning at Runners World , kicking the dead wood out , there must be a lot of looking over the shoulders at this mag and Running Times. The times are changing gentlemen . We will not stand for this crap.

Your lack of introspection(comes with youth I find) is shocking to me and you still haven't answered the questions above. Do you intend to? Ultrarunner is not allowed to make fun of SFH for what he considers good reasons and yet you are allowed to bash Perdita for what you consider good reasons. Like a lot of people with good ideas, they get lost in all the other ad hominum attacks and unreasoned arguments.

Once again, I agree with your sentiments about what that person is saying but don't you realize what happens to your credibility when you make the above generalization? How do you know who he or she is? You make yourself the focus and your point is lost.

OK , I retract the Perdita comments. Next time I see a volunteer , I will just assume they have nothing better to do with there time than mix gatoraid for me. If they don't , I'll bark at them like a dog till I get my way . Also , 2 Blond women were are the mall trying to raise money/gifts for needy kids , I kept my wallet in my pocket because they both my have been bottle blonds and really stupid. Is everyone happy now? Maybe I can blend in with the Boomer generation after all.

                          Re: Excuses Athletes Make

I am one year older than Suzy, I'm not 50+. I don't care if she is blond, redhead or has her head shaven. It is her comments and personaly talking to her that has me questioning her intelligence. I'm not even calling her stupid. That was you. I think she is a very talented, hard working person who is very likeable for the most part, I just don't find her very intellectual. We are all not nuclear engineers or beauty queens and some of us are neither, some are both. I would just assume have many more like her rather than arrogant drug users.

I am sorry off-hand remark upset you so much, I was just kidding and didn't mean to make you so mad. Suzy if you read this I was just teasing. I hope the best for you, but tell you that if you don't want to be teased ease up on the flighty remarks in public. If not we will still love you but might tease from time to time.

As for the "Ultrarunners run through the woods because they can't find the outhouse" remark (or something like that). I think that funny, I'll have to remember that one. Thanks.

Still waiting for an answer to my question. If what you say about Perdita is true and it isn't a one time incident(do you know that?), fair enough but you said a lot of other things and slammed an entire generation and you have yet to explain how you will take track back by calling people pissy.

Not taking sides, but as a 50+ guy I

                              a. love Suzy just the way she is (running included)

                              and

                              b. had a conversation with her at the NCAA'a one year and she was very gracious, intelligent, knowledgable and PRETTY!

UfC - before you make generalizations about the 'older generation', please know that we don't all think you are a bunch of pierced, tattooed, pot-smoking spoiled brat slackers as the media is wont to portray you. We know that you are all very different individuals.

As I noted on an earlier thread, I ran into Suzy at Heathrow airport a month ago. She was absolutely delightful--refreshingly candid, wonderfully personable, and happy to talk track. In fact, what most impressed me was her genuine love for the sport, and for the overall health of the sport. ALL the Suzy bashing needs to stop: she's a superb athlete and a class act.
