You've just reminded me of an article in AW from 88/89 with a pic of Flo Jo and a caption something like "Catching up with the men". They were debating whether men and women would soon be competing against each other across all events "If Gaby worked as hard with the weights as she did with her tongue she'd have a different concept of beauty. To get performances like mine, she'd have to sacrifice some of her good looks. The women of the west dont work as hard as we do" JK

Originally posted by tlb747Sorry for getting off the subject, but the closet they have are co-ed relays for highschool meets. I ran in the co-ed 400 meter relay and co-ed 3200 meter relay. The males ran the 1st and 3rd legs and the women ran the other two legs. The track meet was somewhere in the California Bay Area Region.
I guess you could argue most marathons/roadraces are co-ed too (although less so at the elite level)...

Originally posted by BCBarooWow, a total split from the initial thread, but how cool would a co-ed 4x4 be at the Olympics?
So we have Sanya Richards to LaShawn Merritt to Alyson Felix to Jeremy Wariner... home in about 3.03 and change...
And trailing behind them come:
GBR (Ohuruogu, Benjamin, Sanders, Steele) and Jamaica (N.Williams, R.Chambers, S.Williams, M.Blackwood) both battling it out for silver in 3.09
Bahamas (Amertil, Brown, a hurting Debbie Fergson, Moncur) in 3.11
France in 5th (Desert, Djhone, Hurtis, Raquil) in 3.12.5
Other finalists:
Botswana (Montsho, Molefe, a woman who's surname starts with M, Masheto)
Australia (Rawlinson, Wroe, Lewis, Steffensen)
Poland (because they are good at this event... and they can throw in Jesien)
Run out in the heats where:
Russia (2 women with fast home country SRs but disappointing results in the individual event, and 2 pale guys who run 45.5-46)

A 3:03 would qualify them for the men's (only) final, especially if the USA does not have any other team. It does also bring up the question of which years the USA was so much better that they could switch out the #4 guy with their #1 woman and still win.

i can't find the article, so how much overlap is actually there with the 2 events? i mean, would't it still be possible if there's a heat one morning and the final of another event later that day?
