Re: to: mr e. garry hill re: world rankings
You may be right, gh, but when I was on a carrier for a while in the 70's, there were plenty of lines all over the place and we talked about a fouled deck as being unready to accept incoming sorties.

My websters says "fouled" but I think we all know what the normal reference is. My dad, who was in WW2, told me when I was a kid it was a military term as that was the norm in warfare...usually complete chaos.
Quick dogpile search also brought up: Southern Nevada Ale Fermentors Union...think I'll avoid their brews!

Webster says it doesn't enter the language until 1941, when there was certainly a minimal amount of rigging to be concerned with aboard ship.

I was told that that one is actually "fouled", as in a 'fouled deck', i.e. rope lines that crossed each other and caused problems.

T&F News should revert to rankings based strictly on outdoor performances and sans Cross Country of course. Perhaps T&F News could publich a top 5 world ranking per event from indoors,in April, to appease the desire to include indoor performances in their annual rankings.
I will never buy into the concept that an indoor LJ is 100% equivalent to an outdoor LJ.

An interesting note about the AOY awards:
of the 44 Mens AOY TnF has awarded, only 17 of those have been awarded to single-event athletes.
on the womens side, 7 out of 29 AOY awards have been given to single event athletes.

Exactly. If runners, SP'ers and jumpers are "allowed" to have the 'indoor-advantage' for AOY ranking terms, then why aren't long-distance runners "allowed" to have the 'grass-and-road-advantage' also...??

How can you have an indoor field, then...??
