  • Another program lost...

Following in the footsteps of St John's, which chose the Christmas season to unload a bombshell on its athletes, NYIT (NY Institute of Technology) decided to cancel Men's & Women's T&F at the end of the year. Not sure if XC is going too, but my guess is it will. This has to be one of the best sprint programs in US history. Another sad day in the sport.

If anyone cares, here are the contacts to give hell to:

I can't remember any specific names, but if they sprinted for Jamaica in the last 15 years, chances are they ran at Tech. Pete Zinno is the former coach there.

That is indeed sad. We sent quite a few guys to New York Tech. Track seems to be slowly dying in the States. (OK so it has been dying for quite some time now)

Is this a Title (whatever the title guaranteeing equal access to women in sports) issue?

O yeah, the Tech guy who failed the drug test.

This is not a Title IX issue. It boils down to an administration that hated the coach more than overcooked brussel sprouts and subsequently grew to hate the entire sport. They almost dropped the program about 5 yrs ago, but the coach had enough power to save it and the AD resented him for his power base. When the writing resurfaced on the wall, he left and the AD plunged his knife in deeply.

Blame American football. It is destroying America's ability to compete in "real" sports.

                    Re: Another program lost...

This one has little to do with football. It comes directly from an AD who hated the T&F coach to the point where he finally succeeded in getting rid of him and the sport. Zinno is now at St John's coaching the women's sprinters. Expect their program to start attractig quite a good number of Jamaican women starting next year.
