        12-lb shot, eldy - not 16.

            12 or 16 lb

His most recent record-was that with a 12 or 16lb shot?

He has his work cut out for him to get the Jr. outdoor record. Still, his very steady progression is wonderful to watch.

I think he will have to progress to 75-76 feet this year to have a shot at the record next year.

Carter's mark should never be the objective. Brent Noon's 76-2 is a noble goal.
72-8 as a soph makes 75 a good goal this year.
77 as a senior would be the best any mortal has ever thrown as a HSer (seein' as how Carter, or anyone over 80', can't possibly be anything less than a demi-god).

I think the quality of final HS PB depends on how much natural maturation Vena has left. I find it difficult to see him getting to 80-feet through physical training or improved technique alone. Koji calls it 'special energy'.

And lest we forget, besides his 81-3, Carter's best throws were

                          77-0
                          76-9
                          76-4
                          75-11
                          75-10

so anything in that range is indeed Carteresque!

How big is he now? Has he grown substantially since he was a freshman(then 6'3", 265)?

I see he snuck in a 71-3.75 when I wasn't looking! Every SB is, of course, a new Jr class record.
