The 34-year-old, who ran the second fastest marathon in the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon last week in the United Arab Emirates, will target Sammy Wanjiru’s World Half Marathon record time of 58.33 as he aims to improve on his own 58.55 career best over the distance.
“It would make me happy if I can break records every week,” joked the affable former two-time Olympic 10,000m champion.
I wonder what would make him ecstatic?

Not only is he cementing his status as the men's distance GOAT, but he may be putting GOATness out of reach for all future distance runners. Even when that rare bird like Bekele comes along, that is Geb's equal in terms of talent, what are the chances that he will match Geb when it comes to longevity, durability and the ability to stay motivated over a long period of time?

Bekele has the potential - as do other runners (Wanjiru, for example) - to do the things Geb has done. The primary difference is that no one, more than likely, will ever set as many records. Who's gonna break the 5000 record 4 times ever again?
But let's face it - who's the better 10K runner, Bek or Geb? I'd say Bek, but Geb has gone down in history as breaking the WR 3 times. Doubtful Bek will do that.
Geb's unique in that there's hardly anything for him to accomplish any more as a runner, he's rich, he's almost 35, but he still loves doing it. He could break the WR again in the marathon, win Olympic gold, and I bet he doesn't retire still!

geb : 3'29 - 3'30, 7'19 - 7'20, 12'35 - 12'36, 26'12 - 26'15
kennster : 3'31 - 3'32, 7'20 - 7'21, 12'35 - 12'36, 26'10 - 26'13
geb obviously better at 1500, maybe had 1s on him over 3k, inseparable over 5k, but kennster a narrow victor over 10k
the 2 have slightly dfferent characteristics

It just keeps happening over and over. If Ron Clarke was still alive and running he would not believe what is happening now at 10k.
Wow, maybe Ron Clarke is still alive I better check ...
Boy do I look foolish...
He was elected Mayor of the Gold Coast, Queensland in 2004, defeating the incumbent Gary Baildon.
Rule no 1 always google any wild ideas before posting!
