Andrei Kravchenko leads day one with 3542 from Roman Sebrle (3461) and Dmitri Karpov (3455). Andre Niklaus is currently in ninth with 3206.

Kravchenko set PBs in the first three events, followed by a 2.16m HJ. He is 76 points up on his day one PB score. If he equals his PBs in the remaining events, he'll score 6345, which would rank him just inside the world all-time top ten.

Sebrle's day one PB is 3718 - he is some way off that in this competition, so he'll likely score just over 6000. He'll have his work cut out if he wants to win in Valencia.

A competitor of note is Eduard Mikhan of Belarus. He is only 18 (has junior decathlon best of 7766), but has set PBs in all events, bar the LJ. He was the fastest in the 60m by a long way (6.85!) and his first day total is 3337. If he keeps this up, he could break Kravchenko's national junior record.

      New WL target

A reasonable time in the 1000 yields a much higher mark (2:43.66/833 should be easy enough -- 230 higher yields 6422).
      Clay 6192 (6.77, 7.56, 15.91, 2.02, 7.74, 5.15, 3:06.39)
      (966) (950) (846) (822) 3584 (1048) (957) (603)

Three women over 4700 in the pentathlon, won by Blonska in a NR of 4771 (8.32, 1.81, 14.30, 6.57, 2:16.00). Dobrynska was second with a PB of 4758 (including a 17.06m SP - an improvement of 75cm on what was already a strong event for her!!) with Chernova in third with a PB of 4717 (her best individual mark was a 6.61m LJ).
