Re: should the 300 meter event be ratified as an IAAF even
no. but it should be run a few times every year. Good for 200 and 400 runners who just want to test themselves (and get paid for quality times. It's an MJ record that might go first.)And for women, it's a soft one - if a meet wants a possible WR to get fans in the seats, why not..

Re: should the 300 meter event be ratified as an IAAF even
While it may not deserve "official" World Record status, the 300m would be an interesting event to feature in early season meets where you could bring together both 400m and 200m runner while giving each the excuse that its "early in the season" and its "not my event".
It would give both a good way to test the waters in a new event which will likely help their main event (speed for 400m guys and stamina for 200m guys.)
I agree, no official WR but may be useful to some meets as "something different" to help market their meet.
I also agree with GH that since 5:00 was broken in the 2000m it has lost its meaning as a race. 5k runners and milers still have the 3k as a mutual meeting ground.

Re: should the 300 meter event be ratified as an IAAF even
Blasphemy! The 1000 and 2000 should NOT be dumped from the official record lists. What purpose would be served by doing so? Heck, for that matter, why not reduce the official record lists to just the 100, 1500, and marathon? After all, who really gives a hoot about any of the rest? It would make for a far shorter list of boring numbers to remember...

its the 800 version of the indoor 500meters/600yds.

Running a 300 at Millrose is one of the stupider ideas in recent years. That track is so tight that you can't even run a decent 400 on it. Somebody's got rocks in their heads.

"300 did used to be a WR event: IAAF made the right decision in removing it from the list. They should do the same with the 1000 and 2000 now."
Yes and they should just do everything possible to shift attention AWAY from world records, unless they like making dinner from a shitty recipe every night. Several months back someone (Tafnut? not sure) mentioned keeping the focus on seasonal bests, a great way to start.
