Gatlin's appeal - If he wins, can he qualify?

I think that the Final of your event or at least the end of the Trials is the cutoff date. They do not want anyone spending all their efforts chasing a mark. However, I have always wondered about the sprints: what if you are always running into a strong headwind or with a tailwind that does not allow a 'legal' reading and yet are beating other runners?

I do think that Gatlin would have a hard time winning the Trials because you cannot easily come out and be race-sharp.

There is no post-meet chasing period this year. In fact, I'm pretty sure that we discussed earlier possibility of setting up a meet on the off-days for early-event people to try to Q before the end of the meet and it was confirmed that each team is chosen by the next morning, so when the day is over, you got it or you don't.
