  • Unfortunate track names, revisited

It's been a while since we batting this topic around. My latest discovery: Bob Low, BYU pole vaulter. Perhaps that's why Texas Relays stuck him in the B section. :-)

I don't remember the original thread, but I'm sure it mentioned Steve Slowly, the former TCU sprinter.

Me neither, but one of my favorites was steeplechaser Graeme Fell.

There was also Brian Fell the anchor of the winning (UCLA?) 4x4 team at NCAA's in 1999 who you guessed it, Fell on the line. Still won the race. Moncur ran a stormer to come up for third IIRC!

Maybe after I've had my coffee I'll figure out what's so unfortunate about Harvey Glance's name.

South Africa had 2 world class 400H athletes in the early 80's, who trained together:

                          Hannes Pienaar & Hennie Kotze

Their last names (in Afrikaans) translate roughly as "nauseous" & "vomit", which they always used to joke about after a particularly tough hill session!

In all fairness, the name is probably really Gaylord Silly.

In the 1970 Commonwealth Games there was a guy named Bambo Fatty, but I forget the event.

Yes, Gaylord is the first name, but even so...
