    Re: Spectator PR's

Uh, in response to the above, I think the requirement that EVERY microsecond of an event be seen in order for it to "count," is just a tad extreme. There is the need to look at the program and write split times, after all!

      Completely agree!!

If that was the ruling, then no-one could claim to having watched a full marathon (unless, of course, they were competing in it or were one of the camera men!)

        How many HS sub 4s?

Basically out of this one. Best performances I would have seen live would have been Worlds indoors in 93 and(believe it or not) a bunch of pretty good efforts at a few meets in Tillsonburg. Couldn't give you the marks though. I "saw" Rod Dixon's 83 NY marathon race(kind of) and Grete's for that matter.

Don't know whether it was the fastest mile I have ever seen but watching Sully break 4 as a high schooler was the most exciting. There have been 7 North Americans do it and let's not get into the discussion about the extra year of high school up here right now. I suspect that no one has seen all 3 Canucks because they were done on both coasts and Ontario but I will find out. Has anyone seen all 4 yanks do it?

          Spectators PRs

On a related note, while not a record run, I did see Pre's last race. I had just moved to Eugene four days before, and it was the only time I saw Pre in person. Fortunately, not everyone I see for the first time dies the next day.

A Canadian who claims to be a real fan who didn't even go to Edmonton in 2001? Typical Trawnna behaviour, believing that Canada doesn't extend west of Lake Ontario.

Actually with you on the Trawnna thing and I'm only an hour away. During the summer's power outage, they thought they should have priority access to power because they were so crucial. Only a couple of people actually work there. The rest are on some kind of government payroll-no offence Michael.

                  Re: Spectator PR's

DJ, I don't know (about binking), you have to ask Tom. It is hard for field events if you don't have a bunch of people around. Back in the good old days, I had a crowd which would alert when some (supposidly) good performer was up in a field event (we assigned events). Now it is just Mary & I, and we sometimes miss things. But not at "big" meets. I guess that is not really true, as the only Weltkasse meets we have been to, we were solo. I do think, that for an amateur fan (defined as someone who doesn't work for a track publication, write as a track expert for a newpaper or announce at meets) I have a decent PR list. Actually, I would like to hit the rest of the WCs as long as I live, but who knows? I know I will never attend another Olympics, but thats an economic descision. Oh, DJ, this is not a whack at you. Mary & I want to hit Penn Relays at some future date. Jack says it is a hoot, and there are a lot of things to do in the area.

                    Re: Spectator PR's

Took me a while to figure out how a thread with a last post of january 9 made it back to the top of the queue, but I see that the initiator went back and updated his PRs. But tandfman may have made a mistake because he lists Isinbayeva's 4.91 as his wPV PR so he must have been in Athens, but he doesn't list Menéndez's 71.53 in the JT. Maybe he's scrupulously honest and was out taking a pee so he doesn't list it?

Those two marks were the only PRs I got all year. I guess I must not have made much fun at the Olympics after all :-)

The funny thing is that when I first did this off the top of my head, I thought I had three new PR's this year, and then when I went down the WL list, I must have just missed that one. Oh, well, back to re-edit.
