  • A Hurdler Out Of The Blue

How about Bethune-Cookman's Ronnie Ash (or Ashe, depending on where you find him). Was 3rd at Penn, then won MEAC at 13.59 (reportedly into a 1.4).

And he's a frosh. Apparently ran mid-14s as a high schooler last year (Kirkdale, NC).

    6-2/190

If still a Junior, would be =8 American ever.

That is very impressive, because at those speeds the headwind should matter (for really fast times, e.g., 13.0, it is my impression that a tailwind can cease to be an advantage if a hurdler does not have time to execute between hurdles). Further, such a rapid rate of advancement indicates that there is a decent chance that there is (much?) more to come.

I hope football does not get in his way, if the college he goes to have such a team.

I don't think he plays football.

That is good, because gh put up his height and weight and my first thought was, "someone may talk him into playing football." His size is a good fit for a wide receiver and defensive back, but a hurdler he will remain.

He does, but he's not on the school's football roster, and he wasn't listed in their football recruiting class his year. So it looks as if he's just a track guy, not that there's anything wrong with that.

B-C is a school with less than 3000 students; somehow I doubt that they have a heavily staffed SID department. We're probably lucky we got what we did.

Although I would note that B-C has confirmed that despite what it says w/ his bio, the name is Ash, not Ashe.

I was wondering about the spelling, because it shows up as Ash almost everywhere EXCEPT the B-C web site. Glad to have that clarified.
