Let's see, it is May 12, not April 1st, correct? That would be something to see.

10K record has never been broken on US soil. The 5K mark went down only twice here, Ron Clarke (13.25,8 Los Angeles 4.6.1965) and Rono.

Per pela, US allcomers record appears to be:

          68 27:04.20 Abraham Chebii KEN 23.12.79 1rA Palo Alto 04.05.2001

Interesting that they will be running the race at 9:30am (because the conditions will be slightly better). I believe all of Bekele's records, indeed most 10k records, have been set in the evening. I know he prepares extremely well, so hopefully the morning race time will present no adverse effects.

You mean just like it says in the press release? :-)

His current mark is 26:17.53, set at Brussels, Belgium three years ago. That’s two sub-13:10 5ks back-to-back!
That is just absurd. We couldn't even get a two-man relay team to rabbit him!!!

Per gh, the press release appears to detail the US allcomers record. I would recommend that I and all interested parties read it in detail. ops:

It will be interesting to see who will fill out the field since most of the top 10000m runners will be at Hengelo two weeks before. Maybe they can get Tadesse or Sihine? Or those two Japanese-based Kenyans who ran low27's last month.

                      Hengelo startlists:

Well, he is European-based (+8 or +9) and also trains in Ethiopia, which is even further east. The time might have been chosen, in part, so that he is running in (his) evening.

rupp is scheduled for hengelo, but maybe he can delay his first 10k a week so he can run in front of his oregon fans. if rupp can stay on the same lap he could get henry rono's (real) ncaa record of 27.22

Except that Rupp is redshirting this year.

                              Or, 63.1 per lap.

And I think your calculator is off ever so slightly: 4:13.88 per mile. (Hey, that .18 adds up over 25 laps.) Or I guess 4:13.87 to actually break the record.
