  • What's up with X ?

I can't believe an athlete of his caliber continues to run the 200m like an "age group" kid.

90% on the curve and an attempt to shift gears in the stretch? Against Tyson Gay?

Given his 400m strength, why is he afraid to let one go?

Time for X to find a real coach to help him get back on top because Tyson embarrassed him today.

Why the carping? Give Carter a break. No one, other than perhaps Bolt, would have beaten Tyson at this distance today.

All in due time, impatient one. Thou forgetest the 19.63 that was begat of his being. 8)

Yes, but what has he done for us lately?

He faded right at the end after posting a charge that narrowed the gap to Gay. If he was in better condition (it is only May), I think that he would have continued to close on Gay even if Gay had not eased up and would have only been 0.10 or so being a 20.00-20.04 mark with a -1.7 wind. That implies that he is in about 20.00 shape, and Gay's effort is really the best of the year given the conditions and the early-season double. (20.08/-1.7 eased is much better than 19.80w, IMHO.)

He ran the same on his way to 19.63! If he had run the whole race balls out, what time might he have delivered?

                X needs a new coach.

                  X needs some medals.

At the risk of offending everyone, I think Carter is way, way over-rated by posters on this board (IMHO, of course).

I don't know about that. He is enormously talented and has shown that he can do great things on the track. I agree that some medals would be good, but it seems to me that the posters here have been excited about his talent, not his international competitive record.

But eventually, sooner rather than later, he really does need to get his head and body where they need to be at the right time and do something more than what he has done so far. Hardware does matter.

With a 20,25 already to his credit (from a month ago), I assume he:s more than on his way.

                        A 19.63 will cause that every time . . .

He HAS some (gold) medals. Despite a tendency to downplay the quality of the NCAA meet, on the sprint side few European countries can match them and in fact, I am not sure that the Euro Championships are on the same level (remember, for the best sprinters it is a long season with the NCAAs in the middle). What European sprinter this side of Borzov could have come close to X-man's NCAA performance. Come to think of it, there are not too many that TWO together could have done it. Add to that his 19.63 and we may have just taken everyone from that continent short of Borzov completely out of contention.

[If the NCAAs are so easy, what golds have been won in the sprints by Europeans over the last 2, 5, 10, 20 years?]

No one stated that the NCAA:s are easy. Your statements and questions are based on an assertion that folks don:t put much stock in the NCAA sprint championships medals. I:ve never seen that stated here.
