  • Nazarova Worth Talking About

"Natalya Nazarova set a World Indoor best over the seldom-run 500 metres, clocking 1:07.36 at a Moscow athletics meet..Nazarova, World 400 metres Indoor champion, beat the time of 1:07.67, set by compatriot Olga Nazarova 16 years ago."

Interesting that the other Nazarova set her record in an Olympic year ('88), then went 49.11 in the Seoul semi before taking the bronze medal. And she ran that crucial 47.9 second leg of the 3:15.17 WR which gave the Soviets a lead they never relinquished, despite Flojo.

The Russians have a long history of producing top quality female quartermilers and 4x4 squads .. They had 3 top 10 rankers last year and if history repeats itself should have at least 2 finalists in Athens ... Guevara will find the going a little more difficult this year ...

Does anybody know if the two Nazarova's are related?

Was wondering about that too and I thought maybe the IAAF article would have mentioned it if it were the case.

Her 67 second 500 is pretty impressive, that's like running 53 seconds and then hanging on nearly as well as the top 1 lappers do after 300m. Does anyone know what she's done at 200 and/or 800?

          They're not related.
