Eye-rolling indicates bemusement on my part. See the little smile on the guy right at the end?

I was not defending insults....I was pointing out the fact that an assertion regarding insults was simply not true...You have now changed the subject, ostensibly because you had nothing of value to add...I might add that all your eye-rolling emoticon usage is also potentially insulting to people....and if we follow your argument, then we can conclude that your usage of the aforementioned emoticons is symptomatic of intellectual bankruptcy...I'm not asserting that it is....I'm telling you what your assertion means....

Insults are the last resort of the intellectually bankrupt. If you can't convince someone of your point, just insult them; that always works!

I don't think a conspiracy theory makes sense. Liu is one of Nike's high profile track athletes. If he had an injury and told them he couldn't run, surely they wouldn't want to risk the olympics and would say "no problem, Liu. See you in Beijing." That way they could add another high profile athlete to the race and the spectators, Nike, Liu, and anyone else who cares would be happy.

I'm not, and several people here are begging to go on a summer vacation which would have them missing the Trials.

This, by the way, is simply not true. It may be that insults are not considered civil, or they may be unwarranted, or they may detract from the exchange of ideas, but they are NOT "a sure indicator of total lack of conviction in your own position"....And even if they were, which they are not, when you place your little emoticon of eyes rolling, this is an insult in itself, and if you don't recognize it as such, I feel sorry for your powers of understanding, and although that may be construed as an insult, it is not "a sure indicator of total lack of conviction" on my part that it is an insult to roll one's eyes or do so with your silly emoticon.
Us Madisoninans stick together; I am more in KR's camp on this.
He wrote that insults are a sure indicator of a total lack of conviction in your own position. In my above post, I provided an illustration of an obvious refutation of this. Now you write that you are more in KR's camp on this. There is no more....He is either correct or he is not, and if you do not understand this, I could insult you without it being "a sure indicator of total lack of conviction" on my part that you cannot be more in his camp. You're either in his camp, whatever that means, or you're not...

goodness, is this so hard to understand?

two chinese athletes in one race and somehow it becomes a chinese conspiracy. whereas tons of americans in another race and whatever happens, they are just individuals. i guess the double standard is too hard for you people to comprehend.

squackee, i'm glad you enjoy being a racist dumbass, considering the country where you are.

really? in the women's race, there was a FS and a DQ. all american women. were they in concert too? nobody raised any conspiracy theories there. but 2 chinese athletes, they must be all in cahoots...

    i rest my case.
I still do not understand your problem, here. No one is saying anything bad about Liu, although you seem to be inferring that. Most of the posters on this site are quite civil, save for the occasional flamer. We seldom resort to insults, as that is, in civil society, a sure indicator of total lack of conviction in your own position.

I regret giving you an opening to vent on here, although I am sure your insults were simply waiting for some provocation.

    Cheers
