So tomorrow morning Thelma & Louise (err, gh & dj) head off for Des Moines for the NCAA.
But as Cunard Lines used to say, getting there is half the fun, so this is an occassion to fill in some holes in the States spreadsheet, so tomorrow morning dj (who began his trip in Pennsylvania and flew into California on his way to Oregon for Pre) will fly from Eugene to Denver. Meanwhile, gh will fly from San Francisco to Denver.
We'll grab a quick beer in Denver (41-minute connection; can't do more than a few) and puddle-jump to Fargo, North Dakota. Have a beer, then zip across the Red River to Moorhead, Minnesota (and have a beer, of course).
Then down 29 through South Dakota (with a beer) and overnight in Omaha, Nebraska (with a beer). Next morning (yeah, we've blown off the first day of NCs, which is all prelims anyway) continue south to Kansas (where a beer likely to be problematic?), then exit stage-left through Missouri (beer) before finally landing in Iowa.
Some people just have pins in their map for every state they've visited, but a good track geek has a much more detailed Excel layout. Gotta have columns for things like
•A--been there (some will accept an airport stop as OK, so long as you get off the plane and go outside the terminal)
•B--actually stayed there
•C--(important one) saw a track meet there
•D--(really important one) had a beer there
•E--(really-really important one) had sex there
dj and I will be working quite hard on column D, but we'll probably skip E
