    1. Nelson, Walker hype Hayward

    2. The temporary stands on the northeast corner (Powell Plaza) extend out over the stadium onto the sidewalk. So the people on the top rows will actually be outside the stadium.

If so, they can re-name it "Garry's Terrace."

Why don't they just have the meet in Autzen and be done with it. Every time I see all the 'improvements' on tv to my old Hayward Field I sort of cringe.

When I was at Oregon, I lived two blocks away on Moss. You could get on the track at anytime, day or night. I loved running intervals at 10 at night. I will bet you can't do that anymore.

actually, unless the temperature reaches 90, I've all but given up beer.

            Similar to the "It's 5 o'clock somewhere" song, it's always 98.6 F. ( or there-abouts) here.

Beer should never be drank at that temp.! There does exist many lovely malt beverages highly hopped and meant to be drank in the fall....or you could just slam em... and highly malted and dark roasted porters for the winter..... and of course summer brews are meant to be drank ice cold in the heat of the summer..

Same here at Tennessee's Tom Black Track. Sometimes you had to run around those annoying barriers that keep people out of lanes 1-3. But our track was always open to anyone at any time.

the "annoying barriers," of course, save the school mega (mega-mega) bucks in not having to prematurely replace some/all of the track.

Those barriers are really not a problem for most runners. When Boulder Road Runners rebuilt Potts Field back in the early 80's they had those barriers for while and we just just did intervals in lane 4 from the appropriate spot. The real problem is if you are some flummoxed jogger trying to do miles and can't figure out how many laps a mile is in lane 4.

Eventually nature had its way and the barriers fell down---they were too tempting to sit on. For years the track was open to anyone anytime. We use to organize some all-comer meets with free beer for all. I also used to go there in the evenings and do 400s by myself sometimes. One evening about 15 years ago Aouita was doing 400s all by himself, doing 57-59. It was so fascinating to watch I didn't get out of the car until he was done.

Later CU redid the track a few years ago, and when I went back for a visit a while back the track was all sealed up. Open only a couple hours 3 days a week. What killed it was all these training groups that would show up in mass. A hundred people at a time can do a lot of damage to a track.

They should post a sign and have some coloring for runners to know how far doing X laps frm lane 7 amounts to.

BTW, if you run three (of the eight) of the curves in four laps you turn the distance from 1600 to 1609+, from a HS mile to a real mile!
