Peta-Gaye Dowdie actually won the trials in 2000 with McDonald, Lawrence and Ottey behind her. Dowdie was the one left off the team in favour of Ottey. Given Fraser's lack of experience and possible "flash in the pan" status, she'll be left off the team I imagine in favour of VCB. That's some relay though! Did Facey pull up injured in the semi's? Perhaps opting to focus on the 200?

VCB can run the 200m and the relay.

This year with the top 3 running sub-10.9, nobody is stupid enough to remove any of them from the event. In 2000, Dowdie hadn't even run a sub-11 ever in her life.

Francis and JAAA are already at opposite ends in many ways. If anyone saw the interview with him on CVM today, you would know that he will fight for Fraser.
On the other hand, he might feel somewhere down the line, that she might not be ready for the circus! And with that, the door is open. But 10.8x....

FYI, in 2000, Michael Johnson, Maurice Greene, Inger Miller and Regina Jacobs all injured themselves at or after the US trials. But the decision to remove them from the team was made by the athletes themselves, not some hack at USATF, which is the way it should be. Those spots were hard-earned through blood, sweet and tears and you don't just take them away at a whim just to pacify some over-the-hill sprint diva. Jacobs and Miller voluntarily gave up their spots on the eve of the Olympics. Johnson and Greene kept theirs and brought home the gold. Last year Ginnie Powell injured herself after making the team and did not run a single race until she lined up for the World Championship heats. USATF didn't make her prove her fitness before traveling to Osaka, the decision was all hers. On the flipside, Dominque Arnold gave up his spot after traveling to Worlds in time for David Payne to fly to Osaka and win bronze. The point I'm making is that in this country, athletes are given the benefit of the doubt with regards to injuries, because we realize that just because an athlete may be injured and unfit to compete in June, doesn't mean he/she will still be injured in August. No one knows an athlete's body better than the athlete him/herself. That's just the way we do things here in the land of the free, but I guess people don't see it that way in these so-called third-world countries and banana republics.

I can't believe that VCB won't be in Beijing in the 100m, i thought she had a great chance at adding Olympic Gold to her 200m from 004. Stewart, Fraser and Simpson all ran the races of their lives to make the team and I think VCB will be hard pressed to get a spot now, i doubt she would appeal anyway.
The 200m becomes more and more interesting with Felix, Campbell-Brown and junior star Knight all missing 100m spots.

Are you saying that in Jamaica, even if you win the trials, you can't go to the Olympics unless you have a fast enough PR? Where did that rule come from, out of your ***? Did McDonald and Lawrence have sub-11 credentials in 2000? What about 2004, did Simpson and Bailey have sub-11 credentials then? And how do you know what Dowdie's medial status was if she wouldn't tell anybody? Were you her doctor? Were you monitoring her training?
And in case you didn't notice, in almost any other sport that's the way it works. If a basketball or hockey player shows up out of shape or injured, the coach will very likely make them not start, or not play at all.
There is no rule about the PR per se, but the Jamaican rules said the first two placers with the A standard are named to the team, with the selectors given discretion to choose the third spot with somebody other than the third placer. That would give them the option to select a fourth or lower placer who had an otherwise superior season, like Dan O'Brien in 1992. In this case that does not apply, as those who beat VCB also have times better than her season's best and personal best.
