My heart always breaks when I see the 4th placers who came so close - so far Gigi Johnson
I wonder if she has herself to blame? She didn't run hard through the finish and maybe, just maybe could have covered the time she needed to place 3rd?

All the sub-10s (sub 9.9s!) in the men's 100m is the #1 story to me.
You there, on the motorbike! Sell me one of your melons!

This wasn:t solely a personal list, rather the top-10 stories of the Trials. Given the number of posts and the press he received, it is a top-10 event.

In the context of the meet as a whole, this was little more than a totally overblown online dust-up. To the press at large or the vast majority of the folks in the stands it was a trivial to unknown issue.

Overblown, underblown, not blown up at all... it still made its (underserving) headlines and noise.

For anyone attending this meet it would be inconceivable to consider this a top 10 story. Just because something becomes a popular topic of conversation here or amongst the letsrun crowd does not make it a story worthy of top 10 consideration at this meet.

I see you missed the point about the national press. No affiliation with Lets Run.

                    USATF made it an issue:
                    http://www.usatf.org/news/view.aspx?DUI ... 3_11_59_20

                    NY Times:

Adam Goucher finished seventh in the 10,000, which was won by Abdi Abdirahman in 27 minutes 41.89 seconds. Galen Rupp, who is from Portland and runs for the University of Oregon, finished second to the delight of the Hayward Field crowd, which cheered wildly when he briefly took the lead late in the race. Jorge Torres finished third.

Adam Goucher’s fate held much interest because USA Track & Field had given him an exemption into the field despite his failing to make the qualifying mark. The organization cited his history as a five-time national champion in track and cross-country events in granting his appeal into the race.

Nothing to do w/ track, but I gotta add sitting here the last morning watching Federer/Nadal... and it's not even over yet! (tiebreak just ended)

No, I belive you are missing the point. One press release and one paragraph in the NYT does not make this a top 10 story, period.

There were several more -- they are buried in the 10.000m thread.

Forget the athletes, too, including Bauhs. An attorney was on hand to help with this non-story as well, though athletes whom he had hoped to show up didn:t... must have been for the non-story right smack in Eugene.

It:s not on your list. It was on other folks radars not located in Eugene, which seems to be the crux of your argument. Nevertheless. Enjoy other things today which may make your personal list.

I never said it was no story, but rather that in the big picture of these OTs it is nowhere near a top 10 story. If it is on someone's top 10 story list then I believe they have not taken full stock of what is going on here in Eugene over the last 10 days.

And, to address the specific story, for all of the postings here and on letsrun, not one athlete who had qualified for the 10,000 was denied the opportunity to run in it because of the inclusion of Goucher, and not one athlete was denied a ticket to Beijing because of the inclusion of Goucher. So for all of the online bloviating, the overall effect was zip, nada. It was overblown before the race, and any continued promotion of it as important is continued overblowness.

And thank you, I will enjoy this last day of the meet, and expect that a moment or three will make my top 10 list.
