USATF made it an issue:
http://www.usatf.org/news/view.aspx?DUI ... 3_11_59_20
NY Times:
Adam Goucher finished seventh in the 10,000, which was won by Abdi Abdirahman in 27 minutes 41.89 seconds. Galen Rupp, who is from Portland and runs for the University of Oregon, finished second to the delight of the Hayward Field crowd, which cheered wildly when he briefly took the lead late in the race. Jorge Torres finished third.
Adam Goucher’s fate held much interest because USA Track & Field had given him an exemption into the field despite his failing to make the qualifying mark. The organization cited his history as a five-time national champion in track and cross-country events in granting his appeal into the race.

There were several more -- they are buried in the 10.000m thread.
Forget the athletes, too, including Bauhs. An attorney was on hand to help with this non-story as well, though athletes whom he had hoped to show up didn:t... must have been for the non-story right smack in Eugene.
It:s not on your list. It was on other folks radars not located in Eugene, which seems to be the crux of your argument. Nevertheless. Enjoy other things today which may make your personal list.

And, to address the specific story, for all of the postings here and on letsrun, not one athlete who had qualified for the 10,000 was denied the opportunity to run in it because of the inclusion of Goucher, and not one athlete was denied a ticket to Beijing because of the inclusion of Goucher. So for all of the online bloviating, the overall effect was zip, nada. It was overblown before the race, and any continued promotion of it as important is continued overblowness.
And thank you, I will enjoy this last day of the meet, and expect that a moment or three will make my top 10 list.
