I so want to see VCB win that womens 100m just to prove a point. It's going to be a great meet.

Surely the Women's 100m will be a 2 heat affair- I mean, they're going to add some British names to that list I'd have thought...

Do you know that they didn't invite her? Perhaps they just couldn't agree on the financial arrangements. I don't know the answer, but unless I did know, I'd be reluctant simply to assume that she wasn't invited.

Quality of the women's middle distance races is poor. I hope this is because it is tough to get distance athletes to break training cycles at this time of the year because if it is an attempt to showcase the British runners it is very misguided. The only good fast race in the UK in the last few years I remember was Gateshead 2006 where Becy Lyne set her PB, everything else I remember being a slow disappointing affair where no-one got PBs.

I'm pretty sure they invited her, but only for the 100m and 200m.

Richards said yesterday she hoped the race would happen in the two-day London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace, the last major meeting before most athletes depart for their pre-Olympic training camps at the end of the month.

But Richards has been invited to run in only the 100m and 200m at Crystal Palace, leaving promoters Fast Track, and BBC Television, to talk up and savour the domestic head-to-head between Ohuruogu and Sanders in the 400m.

I suppose I can understand why they would want to do that. Perhaps the casual fans (both live and tv) will feel better with a British win, which they're unlikely to get with Richards in the race. I won't second guess them on this.

My preferences, of course, are those of a hard core fan, as is probably true of virtually everyone here on this forum. If I were in the UK right now, I'd be there no matter what. But we hard core fans are not the ones that meet organizers need to attract and cater to. We are addicts and we do what we gotta do. And the folks at Fast Track and BBC know that and take us for granted. I can't blame them--they will do what they gotta do, which is attempt expand the audience for our sport as best they can. I wish them good luck.

Bolt promises "something very special" in the 200 meters at London...
Actually, I'm not sure Bolt has promised "something very special" at London...He says he is "capable of something very special."

The current schedule shows 2 heats and a final.

If that's the case and it stays as is, Felix won't be able to complete the double. Right now the final of the 200 is about 10 minutes before the final of the 100.

A women's 200 (event 5) is also listed on the 1st day. I assume that the 200 on the 2nd day is a typo -- perhaps an under - 20 race?

No, the one on the second day is part of the 4-events competition for multi-eventers.

                          Why is CP not GL?

Apparently fast track don't want it to be, but I can't remember the reason.

It's understandable from the point of view of creating hype among the Brit public ahead of the Olympics.

These are two of the marquee medal hopes for the GBR track team. The casual fan would become disillusioned if they were to watch Sanya run away from them.

The problem with such a strategy is it sets the public up for even greater disillusionment down the line if Sanya then smokes them in Beijing.

The disillusionment won't be so great if they medal behind Sanya. (Not that I'm predicting that that will be the outcome.)
