So, in 10-20-30-40-50 years, when the next barriers approach, will the athlete want to clear:

      5.19, 5.20 or 17'?

      And after that:
      5.49, 5.50 or 18'?

LOL (I vote for the middle in each...I'm with Powell)

        Re: Stacy at 15'5 again

        I think most national class american men don't consider a 19' vault 19-feet unless it is 5.80 (19'00 1/4"), same with 18-feet...virtually everyone wants 5.50 (18-00 1/2) instead.

Maybe it's from being ingrained with the metric system in college.

Unofficial first 14ft-er(14'5 1/4!) was Andrea Muller, in an exhibition competition, Oct.'95. She was 5'3 - how many men that height have gone as high?(probably not many, as they'd be in another event, i.e., gymnastics) Or 5'4 1/4 and 15'9 (Feofanova)?

Dennis Yurchenko is 5'8" and thin. Rens Blom, World Indoor Bronze is about 5'9

            Yurchencho has vaulted 5.81

Some say that Dupe was only 5'6 with cowboy boots - 5'5 without.

Phillipe Collet was only 5'5" or 5'6" and jumped 19'5 1/2" or whatever 5.93 converts to

Shunsuke Shimo of Japan couldn't have been 5'2" and jumped 17'2 3/4", 5.25.

Used to be a great video on stabhochsprung.com of him vaulting at the World Jrs in Chile clearing 17'00 3/4" on a 15' pole.

Wasn't Joe Dial (19'6.5) 'vertically challenged'?
