  • Back on Kenya's bandwagon

I'm writing this before the men's marathon, but I've been quite impressed with Kenya's showing -- both men and women -- in these Olympics. The country has won 13 t&f medals (all by different people), and has more than doubled Ethiopia's six medals (by four people):

As usual, it's Kenya's amazing depth versus Ethiopia's stars. What's more, Kenya's women are contributing mightily to the total.

Looking at the 800, 1500, 3k SC, 5k, 10k, mar for both M and W, there are 36 distance medals up for grabs. Kenya already has 13, and Wanjiru, Lel, and Kibet may add to that.

Kenya is also third in the placing table, just ahead of Jamaica.

Pause for a moment, if you will, and recall what it has taken for many of the Kenyans on board in the Olympics to get there - mostly in terms of foreign issues, challenges and problems.
