Sanya Richards' leg in the 4x400. I don't have the split on that but it made for an exciting race.

I'll be honest, there were a lot of depressing events regarding US track and field athletes. Even some of the ones who won medals were bummed because they didn't get gold. I can think of more negatives than positives this time around. It's like Felix was saying about someone having that voodoo doll going.

I honestly got more enjoyment watching the women's gymnastics than track. At least it wasn't so painful.

I did take a bit of Schadenfreude when the Jamaican women botched that handoff!

        I repent!

But I just can't stand watching so many (literally) take a fall in track. Then, to top it all off, no happy dance from Blanka.

I would have rather seen the Jamaicans beat us head to head in the 4x100 than to endure those dropped batons, too.

Performance of the meet consideration should also be given to the dive-job that Neville performed to nab the second-consecutive USA 400m sweep, and third in the past 20 years.

The female 4*400m. Against a strong Russiaand Jamaica with US top athetes coming from disapointing results (won medals but not the gold ones), they did a great race. I still think with Hastiings, Felix, Richards, Winneberg at their best, the world record is a possibility.

                1) Brown-Trafton, for doing it clean, after all the dopers had to get their act together.

                2) w4x400. Now that's the way to run a relay!

                3) Flanagan, for upholding what's left of the U.S. pride in distance running.

                4) Clay, for rising to the occasion after being injured so much of last year.

                5) 400m sweep, with special mention to Neville.

                6) What the heck, Neville gets his own mention, for nabbing bronze, running the heat, then running a strong leg on the final in 3 consecutive days.

                7) Dawn Harper, for keeping her composure and running her race (no disrespect to Jones, whom I admire for her dignity in the face of overwhelming disappointment).

                8) Dix, for his professional approach throughout the Olympics. He maxed out at the right time.

                9) m4x400, for breaking the OR.

                10) The men's marathoners Hall and (other names excape me right now), for running their races, finishing strong, and not folding like cheap tents once the lead pack got away from them.

Not the slimmest chance that will happen.

Hands down, Neville in the 400m did it for me.

I may get banned for this, but after the rest of the meet, my highpoint was that none of the homebound flights crashed.

Aside from a very few select performances, this meet was a trainwreck for the US team. The failures/disappointments are too numerous to detail. 1 mens field event medal???

After her disappointing 400 run, Sanya Richards come from behind anchor in the 4x4 was true redemption and wins it for me. Neville laying it all out, literally, for a medal to complete a sweep is 2nd while Merritt blowing heavy favorite Wariner away is my 3rd choice.

For me, it was Shalane's record run. I understand the arguement that positions are more i mportant in big races, but this young lady put out her best effort at the right time, which was not a common occurrence for Amurican athletes. As I said on another post, though, Brown-Trafton had the best throw of the year among finalists in her event, so it could not have been that much of a surprise. Just my humble opinion. 8-)

And when you take a drink you decry the abscence of some fluid in your glass? You can't think of anything positive in the USAnians athletics performances?
