  • All Olympic Sprint Medallists to run in Zürich

The line-up of the men's 100m race at Weltklasse Zürich on August 29th will include the entire phalanx of the Beijing sprint medallists: Double Olympic champion and world record holder Usain Bolt (JAM) will take on those opponents who were hardest on his heels in the 100m and 200m, and who took the silver and bronze medals in the bird's nest.

Without exception, all Olympic sprint medallists will compete in the Letzigrund Stadium next week: Usain Bolt, Richard Thompson (TRI, silver medal 100m), Walter Dix (USA, bronze medal 100m and 200m), and Shawn Crawford (USA, silver medallist 200m). In addition, Churandy Martina (AHO), who had been the tragic figure in the sprints in Beijing after being disqualified in the 200m and placing fourth in the 100m, will challenge them again. All in all, as many as six out of eight Olympic 100m finalists will compete in Zurich next week.
Weltklasse Zürich 2008 will once again present star-studded fields: „Athletes are very interested in being in Zurich after the Olympic Games," Bettina Borner, Weltklasse Zürich Athletes' Manager explains. She is currently finalizing the last entries in Beijing. „More than 35 Olympic medallists will compete in the Letzigrund Stadium next Friday."

No start lists up yet. Probably still sorting those out. Agents working like busy bees right now. They should just charter a 747 directly from Beijing to Zurich and shovel everyone on it with a frontloader directly after the closing ceremony. Hope the athletes aren't so fatigued/jet-lagged/letdown so as to have a bust in Zurich.

As a matter of fact, that is what they often do when Zurich is the first major meet after a major championship.
