Last night we went out to dinner with three other couples. When we got there two of the couples were already there. They immediately asked me ‘Can you believe that both US 4x1s dropped the baton?’ When the other couple showed up they immediately asked me ‘Can you believe that both US 4x1s dropped the baton?’ Both times I told them I was always more surprised when the US got the stick around, and explained why. The only other T&F inquiry was ‘Is Bolt on drugs??’

people surrounding me mostly said "Usain Bolt is doped up to the grills".....and they said "the same goes for Michael Phelps....both discover from races like they just came from a vacation"....people kinda liked both....but are very suspicious of em. They liked the rest of the games very much.

Amazing how the average/casual fan is suspicious of a performer like Bolt, but stand in awe of their heroes in the NFL, NBA, and many of the other alphabet organizations out there. Is it so difficult to accept Bolt when they have no problem with 320 lb monsters with lightning quickness on the offensive line? The only reason swimming and athletics are singled out for this type of treatment is that, with the exception of cycling, we are the only sports who really give a crap about drug testing. Of course we have more announced positives. We test and we announce! We are willing to sacrifice our leading performers when they are found guilty. You will NEVER see baseball do that. And the NFL.......don't even go there. :?

Our strategy should be to inform NBC that we do not want track and field to be considered a top five sport. We should suggest they replace track and field with BMX. And I'm serious, we would be better served if that happened.

mass, the resulting stats are not extraordinarly surprising (in
particular, considering that footballers are not that keen on
TnF-stringent measuring)---a pound of extra muscle would add more power
than it would mass. I would be much more surprised to see a ``skin and
bones'' kind of athlete have that kind of speed or vertical.
(Certain combinations of muscle mass and muscle/fat ratios are,
obviously, reason for suspicion in and by themselves. However, the
addition of e.g. a 40'' inch vertical does not necessarily increase the
suspicion.)

Team sports aren't as vulnerable to doping allegations because the casual fan needs times or marks to recognize the difference. However, even when someone gets caught, it's being treated like a minor incident and he gets suspended for two games. I'll never understand why so many people believe that PEDs can't be just as useful in team sports.
