  • I loved these Olympics

Without going into the many, many reasons, and despite the much discussed USA T&F performances; I thoroughly enjoyed these Beijing Games. I'm going to miss going into work sleep deprived but energized.

If I had been able to watch the T&F live, I would have thoroughly enjoyed them, but NBC sucked all the joy out of them for me, and my frustration colored my perception. Just reading the results is good enough sometimes, but the Olympics, especially since EVERYONE else on the planet had live access to them, need to experienced 'first-hand'. NBC ruined the experience for me.

I've never enjoyed a women's 4x4 more. What happened on Asian Soeuil in 1988 was completed in Beijing......... and the nonsensical prospect of Sanya and Allyson taking a backseat to a couple of teams containing unnamed runners never materialized..... Revenge is best served piping HOT, on a Golden Platter...

btw glad nobody has entertained conspiracy theories as to why a few women's teams botched baton transfers in the 4x1....

I got exactly what I anticipated out of TV. Nothing beyond a better picture and the ability to record, pause and replay events I'd already seen hours before. I can't even imagine shutting myself off from the internet and relying solely on NBC. That would have been a truly appalling experience for me.

What I didn't anticipate was the option of watching live online through foreign feeds. This made the Games a highly enjoyable experience for me. Of course, the feeds freezing during the most popular event finals was frustrating as hell but it was also something I guessed would happen once I realized the feeds were going to last the duration, but I saw almost everything on their replays a few minutes later. It was a tremendous and unanticipated pleasure seeing all the heats on the track and all the jumps/throws in the field events. And thank goodness for youtube, it added an enjoyable new dimension in searching for events and watching them before the video was taken off.

The internet coverage, emailing friends, reading the boards and youtube made it a very enjoyable experience for me. One that vastly exceeded my expectations. But, by Saturday, I was completely exhausted. Getting up at 4am to watch live and going to bed at midnight for over a week made me almost relieved it was over on Sunday!

I think everyone who watched the Bahamian feed should commit to going on vacation there sometime in the next couple of years. Support their economy as a thank you!

Or take your 2112 summer holiday in the Bahamas. The air fare is probably cheaper than to the UK for the BBC version, and in your free time, you can snorkle

Mike, What is your secret that you plan to be arround in 2112?
You could come up to the West Coast of Canada for 2012, and get all the coverage you could possibly want, and them some more too. As Mojo said
on some another thread, it was a pleasure to not have to set a 4:00 am alarm this morning.

My fav Olympics is still Sydney 2000 but I did enjoy this one very much.

The highlight for me wasn't even a track event. When Simon Whitfield threw off his hat in the triathlon and barrelled his way into the lead with 200m to go-well that is the most incredible moment I have ever seen in sports...then would be Freeman's 400m win. I can't think of Simon's 'throwing down the gautlet" without tearing up.

CBC's wind up show was fantastic and I got choked up when they signed off for what could be a very long time.
The show was so quintessentially Canadian- balanced, positive, enlightening and inspirational.

I hope CTV does a good job but I will miss CBC very much.

Why should I? All I ever saw on it was some women's field event qualifying, and then it froze up whenever something I wanted to see came up. The frustration made it worse than nothing at all. Watching tape delay was also a big enjoyment killer.

I don't think the Bahamian channel ever thought it was going to be the go to site for American track fans!

I COMPLETELY agree with all of the above... plus the ( relatively) poor US results made it even worse. The night I stayed up until almost 2:00 am to ultimately see NO mens HJ and NO mens 1500 sealed the deal for me.

Me too and I suffered with both NBC and CBC. I must have watched a different CBC than Mojo. I watched the one where they torture you as a track fan sitting there watching 7000 dives and even 25 mins of uninterrupted Rhythmic Gym after they have promised track repeatedly. They also did the all- time botch job of the men's HJ. Sleep deprived and irritated these things are hard to take.

I have one question. Why can't diving rounds ever be interrupted?

                            Live streaming Per!

We also saw all the finals LIVE on TV. Men's hj did geta raw deal as did women's SP. I can only imagine how difficult it is to show enough of every track event. Again-livestreaming allowed us to see a lot that didn't make it to the telly.

I didn't mean to imply that CBC did a perfect job with track but their overall coverage was good-except the inordinate amount of time spent on beach volleyball. Canadians do not care about a long boring game where we have no entries. You have seen one babe in a bathing suit you have seen them all.
