I am excited about this one, but I imagine I will end up disappointed. Color me optimistic.

Was this race set up specifically because the US dropped the baton? If they can't get the original line ups it seems a little pointless. Here's hoping. But given the Jamaicans won in a WR time even if the US win in Zurich it will not mean that much. Unless they break the WR too.

If this is the Jamaican OG final team, and any reasonably talented USA team, I'm pumped! Not just cuz I think Jam will kill us, but because it's suddenly national pride on the line. That pumps up the volume!!

Neither Tyson Gay or Asafa Powell are in Zürich, so it's just another relay, although the last event of the evening.

            No Asafa

Following the links from marknj's excellent story about Vladimir Yaschenko in this post http://mb.trackandfieldnews.com/discuss ... hp?t=32843
I saw this report from the USA-USSR meet in 1978 - thought the relay bit would get some of you older American gentlemen excited!

Jamaica didn't run. America won in 38.01. Trinidad second in 38.03.

USA ran with Martin, Padgett, Crawford, and Patton. TRI was Bledman, Burns, Callander, and Thompson. Patton did a nice job holding off Thompson on the anchor.

For TRI, it was their 3rd performance between 38.00 and 38.06 this year. Their pre-2008 NR was 38.10.
