I think Merritt just edged out Wariner but as he dived for the line, he appeared to injure himself. :?

Why would Merritt, the man of the season, feel obliged to dive in a late-season meet of dubious significance? :?

Because he's a competitor....wants to win...oh...and the $30,000 prize would make me dive too...

He has plenty of time to rest....season is done for him now.

Whoever wins this wins the TF no.1??? Probably not. Merritt is Oly Champ.

Merritt over Wariner, 44.51/44.52 now reduced to 44.50/44.51; merritt out-leaned Wariner, but looked to me to be slightly ahead the last step or two.

Merritt didn't dive. :? He leaned at the line and then lost control of his body once he was past the line and fell to the ground....

OK, $30k might be worth a dive at the line. But Merritt doesn't need to prove he's competitive. When it mattered, he took down "God".

Of course Merritt will be Number 1 for the year. If he isn't, it would be an unprecedented scandal.

He didn't dive though so what are you talking about?

And nobody said he was trying to prove he was competitive....as a competitor you run to win and he was in a position to do so by leaning.

What would you have preferred him do...run for 2nd?

Great race, I thought the gap was a little bit bigger because Merritt came from behind on the homestretch, but Wariner didn't give up once Merritt moved past him.

Just saw the interview with Merritt, he was in pain because he fell on his crown jewels after the finish line.

Looking at that image, I have the same question. Wariner's shoulder in touching the front line, where only Merritt's neck is that far advanced. Certainly looks like a misread photo to me.
