Does anyone know the world record for the men's heptathlon 1,000 meters?

The fastest I can find is by Jevgeni Ovsjannikov. he ran 2:32.69 in Moscow, 1985 (his final score was 6126).

Just to clarify: there is no such thing as a "world record" for any event inside any multi-event. And even noting the best on record gets problematic because you can always get somebody who is a specialist in the event who puts up a horrid overall score, but has a wonderful performance in their real event (like Paul Cummings 3:58 in the 1500).

Starting this year there the 100th-best performance of all time was 6078. As noted by Jon, the 2:32 by Yevgeniy Ovsyannikov (his transliteration was into German, not English) is the best in that range.

Jan Podebrasky ran 2:30.90 in a 5928 score, Vladimir Kryuchkov 2:30.25 in a 5923. So perhaps the 2:30 barrier remains!

(Information garnered from Ed Gordon's fabuluous TAFWA All-Time Indoor Lists book)

When did Paul Cummings do a decathlon? I thought Robert Baker held the "world best" for a 1500m in a decathlon with his 3:58.7...

A better example of non-decathletes doing a decathlon is Tim Lobinger. He holds the "world best" for pole vault in a decathlon at 5.76m!

Cummings mark some time in the '70s. Couldn't find it on a quick search but did find 3:54.2 by Simo Saloranta of Finland in '59.

That's why the deca-geeks like Frank Zarnowski usually have a basement (7000pts?) for a mark to be considered as an event record, ensuring that it was made by a "real" decathlete.

Cummings 1500 in decathlon documented in T&FN: I April 1971. 3:58.8. No decathlon individual marks or overall score given.

For decathlon, I think Zeke requires 7500 for WB in individual events (AB as well). I'm pretty sure there is a finish the event requirement as well. I have no clue as to what if anything he does about hept.

Does anyone know a source for somewhat deep WB lists for the individual deca events? This part of Zarnowski's site is "under construction". Thanks.

This page may be of some use:

There's some other great pages on that site. Hope it helps!

Lol, I'm afraid not. I'm up getting my things ready for a trip to Tuscany tomorrow (courtesy of Centresport). I'm doing their website (sneak preview can be seen at http://www.centresporttravel.com ) and they're taking me out there to meet with the World Junior Championships organisers. I should be back on Wednesday!

OK, that's acceptable. Tuscany is one of my favorite places in the world, have fun.
