  • All time 1500m performances list

Just noticed that the top performance of the year (so far) is down in #246. The mile list looks better (number wise), but the converted times are inferior. This is far worse than 2005-2007 (i.e. since El G's retirement). What gives? Was 2008 bad because runners were cagey about giving full effort before Beijing?

There is not much difference between 3:32 and 3:31 but it makes a big difference in the listing of all-time marks. In part, there have been few races set up where a fast time was the primary objective. Also, look at Lagat's last 1500 victory. He ran a pretty quick time but could easily have pushed a second or so faster if he needed; he did not need to and he did not do so. Racing leads to slower times in general then time-trial events aimed at least to a significant extent in getting a fast time.

There is talent there, as evidenced by the marks in the qualifying rounds (including WC Champ Lagat not qualifying as well as several other notables).

The Olympics pretty much bulldozed the rest of the calendar this year. The GL circuit didn't have as much life as in the past and, of course, we simply don't have as many fast runners...
