  • 2008 Male Marathoner of the Year - Geb or Wanjiru?

    Based on the debate on this thread:
    http://mb.trackandfieldnews.com/discuss ... hp?t=33256

    Geb is undefeated (Berlin & Dubai) and has the WR and third fastest times ever after this year. Wanjiru was second at London in one of the year's deepest races, and then won the Olympics in an OR beating probably the deepest marathon field of the year.

        I should have added a few more options to the poll:

        * Neither
        * Too hard to decide

        Unfortunately, once you have submitted a poll, you can't change the options. So right now it looks like it is:

        25% - Geb
        25% - Wanjiru
        50% - Yes / undecided

          If this were easy to decide, there wouldn't be much point to the poll.

            No contest.

            Competitive Olympic Games win over tough field in record time vs. fast time-trial(s).

            No contest!

              Samuel Wanjiru

              break the olympic mark by 3 minutes...

              too bad geb didn't do the marathon in beijing...

              looking for fast races and running fast isn't quite the competitive aspect i prefer...

                  Wanjiru - his run in the Olympic marathon is the performance of the year for me.

                    Are you impressed by how many people voted? Or how few?

                      unfortunately, almost nobody ever votes in polls here.

                        I've noticed that too, I wonder why that is? Maybe it seems like a hassle to just log in to click the poll box? This poll so far has surprisingly been on the low-side given the response on the sister thread, and compared to polls earlier this year:

                        62 - Who is your choice for Women's AOY for 2008?
                        82 - Most surprising 2008 Olympic champion?
                        75 - What grade would you give the U.S. Track Team so far in the Olympics?
                        45 - Was Justin Gatlin wrongfully barred from competing in the 2008 Beijing Olympics?

                        Anyway....end digression...

                          I didn't vote because there should have been another choice to vote on:

                          c) They both deserve it

                            You're missing the point. It's not who deserves it, it's whom you would vote for if you had to vote for only one (as you do in this poll).

                              Kind of hard to feel much urgency about it, as I'm 90% sure that Sammy will "win" here. As I said at the top of the thread (or somewhere at least), I'll have no big problem with that...
