  • Jeff Hartwig for USATF president!

I conducted a brief email Q&A with Jeff Hartwig, who just returned from Germany and his last elite vault competition.

Among other things, he talks about becoming a sports agent or coach, and perhaps trying the decathlon some day:

Watch out, Skeets and Greg! Here comes Jeff. Show me the money!

I think he'll make an amazing agent for vaulters. He is very well-connected within the sport and understands the special needs of vaulters.

I hope he stays involved with the USATF side of things and works to improve things there.

Being "well connected" and "understanding the needs" is all very nice, but I'm not sure Jeff has--at the risk of offending my agent friends--the essential ingredient for truly successful agentdom: being a hard-headed, won't bend (word I don't really want to use) who would sell his mother down the river.

There are a few nice-guy agents, but the successful ones play (very) hard ball.

Maybe Jeff can whip out a snake when the negotations get tough :-)

In fact, I'm starting the Draft Hartwig Movement:

Here's what he'd be working with:

He's not _that_ nice. I think he would hold up just fine in negotiations, especially once he's been at it a few years.
