  • Great North Run entry-lists

    http://gnr.realbuzz.com/celebrities_and ... ELITE_2008

Note that the two Bekeles have withdrawn and Jepkosgei and Kiprop have withdrawn due to visa problems.

There are also some sprint events on the first day programme (don't ask me how they are gonna work!) and Lauryn Williams is the main entrant.

this race is very interesting to me mustafa muhammad swedens 8:05 steepler he only has a 1 hour and 3 minute best for the half marathon, but his steeple time indicates huge potential, abdi will probably have to improve on his 60:29 best to stay in the tilastopaja top 100 list, i hope he breaks an hour. jo pavey will be interesting she just got her 10k track best of 31.12 in the olympics , now age 35 pavey is rumored to be ready to run a marathon probably in london 2009-2010, i think she can run 1:08.30 sunday. gebremariam to my knowledge his first half marathon when he runs good he is really good maybe sub 59 minutes, but he is inconsistent and might only run 62-63 minutes, and to me the main story of the race is gebremariams wife werknesh kidane running her first race in 3 years, (her last race was the great north half marathon in 2005) she has had 2 baby boys during her time off. i thought before she had her maternity leave she was probably the women with the best chance at radcliffes marathon record and i told that to everyone, i hope she does great. i cant wait until sunday i hope it is on the computer.

I always thought Pavey had the potential to be as good as Mikitenko. They are pretty much the same age, have almost identical PBs on the track and a similar running style but after Berlin, I'm not so sure :!: I think Pavey will make her marathon debut very soon.

Pavey and Mikitenko are at a similar level between 3000 and 5000, however Pavey had far better natural speed as a 4.01 1500m runner and has not produced 10km or 1/2 marathons comparable to Mikitenko so there is no reason to believe she can be as competitive.

On the other hand, marathon running is probably going to be more financially sustainable for her in the next few years so long as she can run decently since with Elvan and the Russians around there is little hope of even getting a European medal. I will be shocked if she ever runs as fst as Yamauchi over the marathon nevermind Mikitenko.
