I spent a several hours last weekend with a passle of DI Track coaches and had a chance to visit one-on-one with about eight of them. None favor the two region format.
As coaches across the country find out about this new qualifying system I think they will be highly upset. No one knew of the details and now that it has been stuffed down our throats it will create huge problems. Staging of track & field meets is always a difficulty, but staging this monster with almost 2000 athletes in each regional will be complex at best. I just don't see how it can be presented in a coherent manner so that the fans we are trying so desperately to woo to our events will appreciate it. Even with two pits we will have at least 24 PV'ers going in each one. How long will that last? Two pits of HJ'ers going. How long will that last. And given no one has two long throw facilities those events will be contested one after another. Lets see, 48 Discus throwers each taking 3 tosses, with warm up inbetween flights. That just doesn't seem like the type of athletic contest most coaches, officials, athletes and fans will appreciate. Buckle up, it is definitely going to be a ride!
So, what is going to happen. Will this 1) go just as planned here; 2) do it for one year and then the coaches revolt forces a substantial change of the sort the coaches had outlined; 3) revolt now and (a) get minor changes or (b) get substantive changes; 4) none of the above?

To piggyback on HighEd's statement concerning the field events, based on the proposed format, I believe the field events are a cluster**** waiting to happen. What is the procedure for breaking possible ties as they pertain to advancing to the national championships? How will the large field of competitors be managed for both the running and field events?
Looks like a lot of questions dealing with the logistical scheduling has to be worked out cuz as it currently looks, Regionals will be just like a JO meet.

The same number of athletes that used to be spread among 4 Regionals are now jammed into two (basically).
Have you ever tried to run a meet that has every event, both sexes, and there are 48 entries in each event? (and in 3 days) This is a clusterf**k of epic proportions in the making.

I agree 100%. The only change that I would make to regionals is in 400/800 & Steeplechase.
An athlete from a school that doesn't have strong relays may not know if 400 or 800 is best. T&FN wrote 30 years ago that James Robinson might have done better in NCAA 400 than 800.
My sugggestion for Regionals:
1. Schedule high hurdles & 100 heats on Friday BETWEEN 400 & 800 HEATS which would be about a two hours rest.
2. Have Steeplechase on Saturday AFTER 100 finals with 3 sections each of men & women. Numbers should be equal-- 8 - 12 in each section -- not 5 - 7 in one section & 17 in another section. This would also be about 2 hours rest between 400 & 800 finals.
I have one suggestion for NCAA finals--eliminate SEMIS for 400, 800 & 400H. OG & WCh have 3 semis of 8 each. I realize that Tom Hammond dislikes 3 semis, but a star such as Clement could have run 4x100, 400, 400H & 4x400 @ 2005 NCAA if he didn't have to run any semis & seven total races -- 5 @ 400. In fact, "X-Man" might have been able to win 100, 200, 400, 4x100 & 4x400 -- 11 total races, but only three 400 races @ 2006 NCAA:
Wed & Thu -- Multis finals
Thu -- 10,0000 finals
Fri -- 4x100, St., high hurdles, 400 & 5000 finals
Sat -- 100, 800, 400H, 200, 1500, 4x400 finals
