  • new york city marathon elite profiles up.

the elite profiles for the new york city marathon are up. the elite field of 14 women looks absolutely loaded with radcliffe, ndereba, wami, k.smith, k. goucher etc. the mens field of 13 to me looks very watered down with paul tergat the biggest name, also abdi, about 5 other world class runners and some developmental americans who are not yet world class.

i thought the marathon majors was supposed to be the best, but i think amsterdam this sunday has a lot more world class male runners in it than new york by a lot.

Yes, but Amsterdam doesn't really have an elite women's field at all. It looks like the NYC guys spent most of their budget on the women's race.

Actually, Amsterdam has become "the" fall marathon on merit. Flat, fast and ideal conditions.

saw nderaba at the philly distance run where she placed 2nd...

she looked like beijing took quite a bit out of her...

i do wonder if she has a real fast maratho in her legs, as i doubt she'll be 100% recovered...

I've never run a marathon or trained for one so those of you who have I'm sure will let me know the real deal on this.

It seems to me that New York is a bit soon for Radcliffe to be trying to come back and run another marathon. It's less than 3 months after Beijing (more like 2 1/2) and she looked absolutely awful there as a result of not having recovered from her injury. It was a valiant effort no doubt but I remember hearing that many felt she should have dropped out to avoid risking further injury.

Is that enough time to rest, recover, heal, and get back into prime racing shape for a marathon?

Her injury during the Olympic Marathon was cramp and she didn't re-injure her leg. She said she wasn't even tired from a cardio-vascular point of view and she had recovered within five days. I guess we will know what sort of shape she will be in next Sunday, when she does the Great South Run.

i thought the elite profiles were all the good runners in the race, but now that i have seen the full list it is a LOT better and i am really looking forward to it some runners of interest besides the obvious hosea rothich who ran a 2:10 marathon in nairobi, abel kirui, isnt that gebs pacer? and look at the legends from the past, zola pieterse (budd), rod dixon, jerry lawson, steve jones also i always thought boaz chebwoiyo could be a good marathoner, i cant wait until november 2nd.
