Hey, my 11th grade English teacher kept a monkey in a cage in her fireplace, and she was a good teacher.

Allow me to simplify my objection: every time a race result comes in in meters, the sports editor in charge of whether or not it sees the light of day cringes; and when the man in the street sees that ugly word, he also cringes.

Pay no attention to the pompous Marlow, he has ZERO idea about which he speaks. He was'n't on the front lines when this horrid shit went down.

Ya gotta love how far afield (npi) these discussions get.

Yes, but what exactly do we as a culture mean when we say, "God"...?

          It isn't, it's 42.195 kilometers
Though it was tougher to look at splits 43 times during the race, I preferred it to only looking down 26 times for the sake of attempting to maintain pace.

Channeling Mark now? The Pomposity Factor is pandemic then, I fear.
How many people here WERE on the 'front lines' (what does that even mean?!)?
You have once again invoked the weakest argument we see here regularly - you have to be an insider did-it expert to comment here. If that were true, you would have VERY few people here - is that what you wish?

Jason Fox is often seen arguing for the metric system:
