  • Men's Performance Of The Year

One suspects the IAAF was guilty of a little "spread the wealth around" thinking when it gave POY to Robles's WR in the hurdles.

So the question is, if you had a vote, would it be for Bolt's 100 or 200? (or would you go for Robles? Or even something completely different...)

That is a hard choice. Robles is out for sure. But deciding between the 100 and 200 is tough.

I think the 200 record is more likely to endure, but if I had to choose a POY, and I couldn't vote for a tie ( ), I 'd vote for the 100, which was, to me, a more astonishing performance.

200... no one has ever run faster under any conditions
        same can't be said for Bolt's 100

The 100 was the most stunning (as in the degree of surprise), but the 200 would have been if it was run first. The 200 gets my vote as POY on the mens side -- except.

The marathon win which re-wrote the book on marathons is on par with the 200. People were predicting at least the reasonable possibility that Bolt would run 9.69 (or better) and better than 19.32 -- give me one pundit that had the first 10k in the marathon as fast as it was, followed by the scorching third 5k, and the performance was capped off by taking it to the finish.

I'd vote for the 200, without much hesitation.

This is an easy one: the 200.

                    19.30 - 200
Have to discount the marathon because of pacers.

what if bolt had run hard to the line in the 100 ?

                      that gives him ~ 9.64 - 9.65

                      that better than 19.30 ?

( you coud also correct his crappy RT, which brings it close to 9.60 )

Pacers in the Olympic Marathon, NOT? I was talking about the best marathon, not the one where a record was sought instead of a race.

while you're at it, factor in the Michael Phelps swimsuit to cut down friction, and the helium enema to make him lighter!

I believe that POY stands for Performance of the Year, not Projection of the Year . . .

                              then consider the performance

                              "9.69 whilst easing down"

that more impressive than 19.30 ?
