the article by writer glen foreman starts off with.
never before in history has australia been on the brink of such domination of a track and field disciplne as it does now in the pole vault.
i read the front page story on australia pole vaulting, then looked up australians on the yearly list, in the men had the 3rd and 43rd best marks this year and those were the only 2 australian male pole vaulters in the top 100, in the womens pole vault australia had the 11th and 54th best marks in the world and those were the only 2 australian women in the top 100.
in the juniors i think the top australian girl is 4th and the top male is 11th on the yearly junior list.
this hardly indicates they will soon be dominating the event even if steven hooker stays at the top.
at the same time i am saying this i am somewhat of a hipocrit because i think the kenyan women will soon dominate the 800 even though they only have 2 in the top 100 yearly list and 2 in the top 100 all time list. a lot of my belief on that is well the kenyan men dominate the 800 (all timelist wise) so why wouldnt there woman eventually and that an 18 year old kenyan girl is far away the best, so there are probably others with that ability not yet discovered.
i really do not follow the pole vault much, but i dont know why anyone would be expecting the australians to dominate the pole vault in 4-8 years.
is there people here who really follow the pole vault who believe (and the article even seems to almost expect) that australians will soon dominate the event, or is the writer just writing what he hopes will happen?
